As you've all noticed, temperatures this month have started breaking records. Whether it's global warming or not, I personally notice that the weather in Kyiv has become like Spain, where I couldn't spend long for precisely this reason. If scientists are right, then by around 2050, the climate in Ukraine will be like that of Spain, and there, it will be like the Emirates. After all, that's partly why the West is investing here, and there are guys in all sorts of councils and agencies calculating such situations. They, too, want to plant their gardens in black soil, not sand. But that's not what I'm talking about today; I'm talking about how temperature affects our bodies.
Have any of you ever boiled eggs in water? I'm sure you know that at high temperatures, the liquid content of an egg will solidify. Why does this happen? Because the proteins in the egg denature. The same thing happens in our bodies, because we have a lot of proteins—our eyes (which can boil like eggs), our skin, our muscles, our ligaments. Basically, they're all proteins. These proteins have a 3D structure that's lost when heated, which is bad. The functionality of these proteins is determined by their structure. For example, the same protein will perform different functions depending on its structure. A cube-shaped protein will have one function, while a spherical one will have a completely different one.
Heat shock proteins
I'm exaggerating, of course, but in essence, high temperatures primarily damage the body at the protein level. And that's why evolution gave us heat shock proteins . Yes, that's what they're called because they begin to be expressed when temperatures rise. These stress proteins are a group of proteins synthesized in cells in response to stressful conditions, such as high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation, oxidative stress, chemical agents, and other adverse factors. Their main function is to protect cells from damage and maintain the proper structure and function of other proteins. The main functions of heat shock proteins include :
Chaperones : Help in the proper folding of new proteins and prevent misfolding or aggregation of damaged proteins.
Protein Repair : Helps restore damaged proteins, returning them to their proper structure and functionality.
Degradation of damaged proteins : Involved in the removal of severely damaged or misfolded proteins via the ubiquitin-proteasome system.
Maintenance of cellular integrity : Provides protection to cells from apoptosis (programmed cell death) under stress conditions.
These proteins are crucial mechanisms for maintaining the body's youthful appearance. Without them, we would age and become ill faster from heat and other stresses. Essentially, your immune system works harder at high temperatures to maintain proper cellular homeostasis. It's important to support the expression of these proteins with dietary supplements and a healthy lifestyle.
Thyroid function at high temperature
Moving on, high temperatures can lead to thyroid problems. TSH secretion decreases, leading to decreased thyroid hormone levels. This slows metabolism and reduces heat production, helping the body adapt to the heat. This is relatively normal for a healthy person, but for someone with hypothyroidism, it can lead to problems. The person becomes passive, wanting nothing more than to lounge on the couch. This explains why many people become passive in the heat. At temperatures above 30°C (96°F), even healthy and active people can behave similarly.
Testicular function at high temperature
So what happens to the other testicles? The thing is, men's testicular temperature is usually lower than their body temperature, which is related to immunity and other factors. A man's testicles are like a refrigerator storing reproductive cells (I'm exaggerating). So, if the temperature is above 30°C (96°F), the testicles also become passive. This explains the sexual problems associated with high temperatures. Testosterone drops, sperm production declines. In this case, not only dietary supplements but also cold showers can be very helpful . Yes, specifically in this area. Of course, you must be healthy, free of infections, prostatitis, and other nasty ailments.
Ultraviolet and skin
And finally, ultraviolet radiation. I think I've already written about it. Other bloggers have told you, too, that ultraviolet radiation damages skin cells, that SPF is needed, that sunbathing is bad, and so on and so forth. This is trivial information for me, so I'll just say that SPF alone isn't enough; you need antioxidant supplements. Bloggers don't usually know about this anymore.
